Students to follow in the footsteps of the Anzacs - calling for expressions of interest

Twenty high school students from across NSW will trace the footsteps of the Anzacs during the 2018 Premier’s Anzac Memorial Scholarship tour.

The students from Years 10 and 11 at Government, Catholic and Independent schools will embark on a 13-day tour of significant battlefields in Ypres, Passchendaele, the Somme and will attend the official commemorations to mark the centenary of the Battle of Hamel.

Minister for Veterans Affairs David Elliott said the 2018 pilgrimage to the Western Front will encourage a new generation of students to better understand the service and sacrifice of our Anzacs on battlefields half a world away from home.

“The scholarship gives selected students from across the state the chance to visit key historic sites in France and Belgium and to witness firsthand the fields upon which the Anzac spirit was forged,” Mr Elliott said.

“During the Centenary of Anzac, it is important that the service of Australian men and women, and their contribution to our nationhood and identity, is honoured and remembered.”

School principals should lodge an expression of interest by 5pm on 17 August 2017 at 2018 Pams Tour - Expression of interest portal . The successful schools will be announced after 20 August 2017.

Students from the 20 successful schools will then prepare a piece of work based on the Centenary of Anzac. Each school will select one winner to participate in the tour.
