War memorial restoration funding closing soon
NSW Community groups keen to protect and restore local war memorials which commemorate the sacrifice of service men and women are being reminded there are only a few days left to make a submission for a share of $125,000 in NSW Government grants.
Minister for Transport, Veterans and Western Sydney David Elliott said the NSW Government was committed to the conservation, repair and maintenance of local war memorials as they provided communities a place to gather and honour our veterans.
“The NSW Government has $125,000 available to protect our war memorials which are a focal point every year on Anzac Day, Remembrance Day, and other anniversaries to enable local communities to commemorate our military history and pay respect to our diggers,” Mr Elliott said.
“I encourage all community groups, memorial trusts, veteran groups and local councils to take a look at their local memorials, and apply for this funding if the memorial needs repair, repainting or restoration.
“We need to maintain our memorials for future generations, ensuring the service and sacrifice of our veterans is not forgotten.”
Funding is available across NSW for a range of conservation work to local war memorials such as condition assessments, specialist cleaning and repairs.
Grants of up to $10,000 are available, and the memorial must be listed on the NSW War Memorials Register to be eligible for funding. Round 2 of the Community War Memorials Fund 2022/23 will close at 5pm on Monday 13 February.
