ADF parachute tragedy
On behalf of the NSW Government, I extend my deepest condolences to the family, loved ones and colleagues of the Australian Defence Force (ADF) soldier who tragically died during parachute training at Jervis Bay Airfield yesterday.
The loss of any service member is profoundly distressing, and this incident will be deeply felt across the Defence and veteran communities.
ADF personnel undertake demanding and often hazardous training in preparation for service to our nation. That commitment reflects extraordinary professionalism, courage and dedication. While training is essential to operational readiness, any loss of life during these activities is devastating and warrants careful reflection.
I note that Defence has confirmed a second soldier was injured but did not require hospitalisation, and I am relieved to hear he is receiving appropriate support. I fully support Defence’s request that the privacy of those affected, particularly the family, be respected at this difficult time.
My thoughts are with everyone impacted by this tragic event.
