29 July 2026: Construction begins

Construction on the Veterans and Families Memorial began on Wednesday 29 July 2026. Read the media release >

Premier Chris Minns and Minister for Veterans David Harris turned the first sod, alongside Afghanistan and East Timor veteran Ross Edwards and Iraq war widow Michelle Carr to mark the start of construction. View images from the sod turning event below.

It has also been announced that Robert Plumb Build has been appointed to construct the memorial, bringing award-winning architect Billy Maynard's vision to life.

The Memorial is expected to be completed in the coming months.

14 April 2025: Design unveiled

On 14 April 2025, NSW Premier Chris Minns and Minister for Veterans David Harris unveiled the Memorial's design, prepared by award-winning architect Billy Maynard. The design takes the form of a circle formed with two crescents, symbolising gathering, protection and unbreakable bonds. Read the media release »
