Veterans' Affairs

The NSW Government plays a key role in ensuring the sacrifices of ex-service men and women are honoured and remembered with dignity and respect.

Veterans' Affairs matters are the responsibility of the Honourable Victor Dominello, MP, Minister for Citizenship and Communities, and Minister for Aboriginal Affairs.

More information on the work undertaken in this area can be found on the pages of this site. However, a number of key activities are highlighted below.

Centenary of Anzac

The Premier Kristina Keneally announced on 25 May 2010 the establishment of a NSW Centenary of Anzac Commemoration Committee to be chaired by John Watkins, a former NSW Deputy Premier.

The establishment of this Committee ensures that the people of New South Wales can work with the Federal Government’s National Anzac Centenary Commission, as well as with other States and Territories in delivering commemorations and activities at National, State and local levels.

The New South Wales Government has created a new grants program aimed at helping young people and multicultural communities participate in the Anzac spirit and traditions.

Anzac Community Grants are intended to aid local communities in raising public awareness of the Anzac spirit and the sacrifices made by Australians in war, conflicts and peacekeeping, especially in the lead up to the Centenary of the First World War 2014-2018.

Applications are invited for grants of up to $5,000 from ex-service organisations, community groups, schools and other educational institutions, local government, museums, or historical societies.
