Anzac Community Grants Program open to honour veterans
Communities and veterans’ groups from across the State are encouraged to honour the service of their local veterans through the $100,000 Anzac Community Grants Program.
The Anzac Community Grants Program provides grants of up to $3,000 for projects that either promote appreciation and understanding of the service and sacrifice of military service personnel or support activities and services to enhance the wellbeing of the NSW veteran community.
Minister for Veterans David Harris said the NSW Government was pleased to make funding available for projects that honour former and current serving personnel and their service to communities.
“We all need to be reminded of the importance of projects that broaden the understanding of Australian military efforts and peacekeeping contributions, and honour and support our veterans and those who currently serve, and how valuable they are to our local communities,” Mr Harris said.
“I encourage anyone who is interested in acknowledging the service of our veterans in New South Wales and the sacrifices they have made, to apply for an Anzac Community Grant.
Applications are open to individuals and not-for-profit organisations, including local government authorities, ex-service and non-government organisations and educational institutions.
Grants cover four categories: local community historical research and education; preservation or display of war memorabilia; public commemorative events; and support to members of the NSW veteran community.
The program delivered over 70 projects last year and Minister Harris highlighted how important it is that the program helps to address key areas for veterans wellbeing, education and recognition.
“We are committed to supporting the more than 1,200 veterans that transition into NSW communities from the Defence Force every year and honouring their service,” Mr Harris said.
“Previous grant recipients have organised events and activities for veterans and families that help welcome them to the local community, whilst also informing future generations about our military service and history.”
Minister Harris confirmed the program is part of the $7.6 million in funding in the Office for Veterans Affairs portfolio, announced in the first Minns Labor Government Budget handed down on Tuesday 19 September 2023.
The current grant round closes at 5pm on 11 November 2023.
