Vale Walter Scott-Smith

The NSW Government is saddened to learn of the passing of Walter Scott-Smith, affectionately known as Wally.

Mr Scott-Smith served as Chief Attendant of the Martin Place Cenotaph in Sydney for 78 years until he retired from duties on Anzac Day last year, at the age of 96.

Minister for Veterans John Sidoti said Mr Scott-Smith had tirelessly tended to the memorial in rain, hail or shine.

“Wally Scott-Smith helped keep the Martin Place Cenotaph spotlessly clean, arranged the floral tributes, stood guard and always provided a friendly face for those who came to pay their respects to the fallen,” Mr Sidoti said.

“The passion and dedication he showed to his job made him such a treasure in our community and he will be dearly missed.”

The NSW Government extend their sympathies to Wally’s family and friends.
